ENJOY THE CULTURE

If you like the cultural side of things, Peer is the place for you!

Peer has a very rich history. Stroll through the historical centre and you’ll know exactly what we mean! The striking Old Town Hall, Saint Trudo Church with its Giant of the Kempen and the 18th-century town farms are just some of the highlights.

But there’s more. Peer is also the probable birthplace of the artist Pieter Bruegel the Elder. The sights of Peer and the surrounding area most likely inspired some of his works. Full-size reproductions of his entire oeuvre are displayed in the Bruegelhuis museum. Other museums tell you more about the specialities of Peer – flax, wax and buckwheat cake – the composer Armand Preud’homme, the Peer harmony and old musical instruments. The KB Air museum at the air base is highly recommended for groups.

Poorthuis cultural centre hosts contemporary performing arts every week. Or visit one of the many events held in and around the town centre every year!

Peer is as full of life now as it was in the past!
