Historical town walk

Historische stadswandeling

Peer has a rich history. The town was granted a charter as early as the 14th century. The church tower, the ‘Giant of the Kempen’ was part of a fortress tower back then. Another interesting building in the centre is the oldest preserved town hall in Maasland Renaissance style in the province of Limburg. This strikingly coloured structure is an expressive remnant from the 17th century, when it served as a covered cloth hall.

The 18th and 19th century town farms around the triangular market square are also well worth a visit. The real eye-catcher on the square is the pear, which in 1863 was placed on top of the cast-iron pump from 1761.

Our historical town walk passes by the most important remnants from the history of Peer. Just follow the copper nails in the pavement and enjoy the anecdotes and information on the information boards.
